Pfister, who came forward just before the Deadline for Candidacy, was elected Federal Councillor (Bundesrat) with the Support of the Left and Female Members of Parliament, rather than Markus Ritter, who was the main favorite Candidate. He has worked as a Teacher, Research Assistant, and Consultant for Non- Profit Organizations (NPOs) and Associations. In the Army, he most recently held the Rank of Colonel and was the Disaster Relief Director for Region 3. His Political Activities began in the Year 2003, as a Member of the Guardianship and Social Assistance Committee of the City of Baar, and in 2006 he was elected to the Canton Zug Assembly. He then served as Leader of the Provincial Council Constituency and as Chairman of the Federation of Provincial Councilors. He has been a Member of the Cantonal Zug Government since 2016. When he ran for Federal Councillor, he was described as experienced in Local Politics, but unknown in Central Politics. Martin Pfister's EU-Leaning Positions have alarmed Conservative Forces. ■ Mrs.Viola Amherd, Predecessor as Minister of the VBS, announced her Resignation on Januar 15, 2025 at a Media Conference in Berne. Soon after, in Februar 2025, it was known that Thomas Suessli, Commander-in- Chief of the Swiss Armed Forces, had also handed in his Resignation. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_S%C3%BCssli Commander-in Chief Thomas Suessli was brought in by Viola Amherd not from within VBS, but from outside with a self-desired Term of Office for some Years, as Suessli said in a recent Radio Interview. He is an IT-Specialist and has worked mainly in the Banking Sector. In the Army, he joined the Officer Corps in 2015 and rose to the Top. When he submitted his Resignation, he also received the Results of the latest Staff Survey. The Results were dismal: on a Scale of 0 to 100, the Trust Rating was only 25 Points. "This is a big Blow to me and I find this Situation unacceptable," Dussey said. Dussey has done everything he could do to bring the Service up to speed in the Digital Age, but Staff Dissatisfaction has grown, many have quit and the Cantons have sounded the Alarm. "A major Reorganization was a big Risk, maybe too big," said the Head of the Inspectorate Delegation of the State Council and the Cantonal Council (GPDel), which oversees Intelligence Agency (NDB). The three-year Reorganization of the NDB had caused big Problems. Tired Bosses and disgruntled Subordinates. And all this at a Time of Turmoil and rising Terrorist Threats. Defence Minister Amherd's Successor, Martin Pfister has a huge Workload at the VBS. ■ Not only is there a Change in the Head of the Defence Organization, but there are also Problems with Arms Procurement Projects. On Tuesday, July 1, 2025, Swiss SRF Radio interviewed Thomas Suessli under the title "The Commander-in-Chief of the Swiss Armed Forces and the Fighter-Jets (Der Armee-Chef und die Kampf-Jets)" (Swiss German). https://www.srf.ch/audio/tagesgespraech/thomas-suessli-der-armeechef-und-die-kampfjets?id=AUDI20250701_NR_0038#autoplay The Procurement of US F35-Fighter Jets involves significant additional Costs for the Purchase of 36 Aircrafts, and in June, Minister Pfister stated that the USA was asking Switzerland for an additional CHF 650 Million to CHF 1.3 Billion, even though VBS had assumed a "fixed Price". Switzerland says the Price of the F-35A Fighter Jets, it ordered is fixed, and the USA says that Switzerland has misunderstood this. Still, Commander-in-Chief Suessli says Switzerland needs the US-Fighter Jets for mutual Support and Cooperation with neighbouring Countries. Politicians and Military Representatives have agreed on a Compromise as the simplest Way out of the F-35 Fiasco. Procuring only 30 F-35 Fighter Jets instead of 36 is gaining Support as it would avoid additional Costs. This includes the Drone Procurement, which is already seven Years late and is reportedly investigating whether to cancel the Purchase from Israel. The Procurement of Israel's Hermes 900-Drones has been postponed again. The Final Operational Launch has been postponed again and again, and Costs continue to rise. Ten Years after the Purchase Decision, the six unarmed Hermes-900 Reconnaissance Drones are still not flying properly. The Swiss Federal Audit Office has already inspected and criticized the Project three Times. Initially, the Project was scheduled to be completed in 2019 at a Cost of CHF 250 Million, but it is now reported that it will be completed in 2026 and the Drones will be officially certified by 2029, with the Cost rising to CHF 298 Million. Switzerland's National Defense System seems to be in a somewhat unsatisfactory State. Nevertheless, I believe that Governance is healthier than in other Countries because Power is decentralized and Metabolism is ensured, and even if there are Problems, it is easier to recover.
