Schweizer Bau-Ingenieur mit Weltruf in Dokumentar-Film. 新しいドキュメンタリー映画「ニューヨークへの入り口」は、1904年米国に移 住して幾つもの吊橋を建設したスイス人建築技師オトマー・Ｈ・アマンの物語 を描いている。スイス人アマンは世界で最も重要な橋梁建設者の1人と看做さ れている。映画は彼の私生活だけでなく、20世紀初頭の橋梁建築技術について も詳しく描いている。技術者アマンはツューリッヒの連邦工科大学の卒業証書 を携えてニューヨークに渡り、ハドソン川の「ジョージ・ワシントン橋」他を 計画した。1931年に開通したこの橋は、世界で最も忙しい橋となり、ニューヨ ーク市の重要なシンボルになった。ハドソン川上のこの吊橋は14車線、2階建、 長さ1,067メートルで、車とトラックを渡している。年間1億台以上の車が橋を 通過、これは世界記録だ。アマンの吊橋は機能美を備え、次第に巾広になって いる。彼の代表作は、1964年に開通したブルックリンからスタテン島に渡され た「ヴェラザノ＝ナローズ・ブリッジ」で、当時は世界最長の橋だった。彼の 最後の作品は86歳で亡くなる1年前に完成。米国では「スイスの遺産」が時折 語られ、ここで意味するのはアマンの作品のデザイン、執筆、写真、建設又は 建築美で、それは簡潔さと明快さに基づいている。 The new documentary film "Gateways to New York" tells the story of the Swiss structural engineer Othmar H. Ammann, who emigrated to the USA in 1904 and built several famous suspension bridges there. The Swiss Ammann is considered one of the most important bridge builders in the world; the film shows details about his personal life, but also about the art of bridge building in the early 20th century. Engineer Ammann went from Zurich to New York with an ETH-diploma; he planned, among other things, the "George Washington Bridge" over the Hudson River. Opened in 1931, the bridge is considered to be the busiest bridge in the world and an important landmark of the City of New York. The suspension bridge conducts the car- and truck traffic, in 14 lanes, two-storied and 1,067 meters long over the Hudson River. More than 100 Mio. vehicles cross the bridge yearly, which is a world record. Ammann's suspension bridges are constructions of functional elegance with ever greater span. His masterpiece, the "Verrazzano Narrows" bridge from Brooklyn to Staten Island, opened in 1964 and was the longest bridge in the world at that time. It was his last building, completed one year before his death at the age of 86. It is spoken of "Swiss Legacy" from time to time in the USA; what is meant here is the aesthetics of design, writing, photography, construction or architecture in Ammann's works, which is based on simplicity and clarity. Der neue Dokumentar-Film "Gateways to New York" erzaehlt die Geschichte des Schweizer Bau-Ingenieur Othmar H. Ammann, welcher 1904 in die USA auswanderte und dort mehrere beruehmte Haengebruecken baute. Der Schweizer Ammann gilt als einer der bedeutendsten Brueckenbauer der Welt; der Film zeigt Details ueber sein persoenliches Leben, aber auch zur Kunst des Brueckenbaus im fruehen 20. Jahrhundert. Ingenieur Ammann ging mit einem ETH-Diplom von Zuerich nach New York; er plante unter anderem die "George Washington Bridge" ueber den Hudson River. Die 1931 eroeffnete Bruecke gilt als die meist-befahrene Bruecke der Welt und als wichtiges Wahrzeichen der Stadt New York. Die Haengebruecke fuehrt den Auto- und Lastwagen- Verkehr, 14-spurig und zwei-stoeckig sowie 1067 Meter lang ueber den Hudson River. Ueber 100 Mio. Strittige Ratschlaege des Waehrungsfonds (IWF). Despite many friendly set phrases, it became clear that not all advices of the "IMF" are well received in Switzerland. The IMF-economist explained her demand for more neglect in the State Finances with the weakening of the Swiss economy. Like yet other institutions, "IMF" is significantly reducing the forecast of growth in Switzerland for this year from 1.8% to 1.1%. The IMF-economist criticizes the Swiss government for not using its opportunities to counteract it with more spending. Higher spending is preferable to lower taxes, she said. Mr. Serge Gaillard, Director of Swiss Federal Finance Administration (EFV), strongly contradicts the criticism of "IMF". The spending on Education has increased by 2.5% annually, that for Roads by 3% and that for Railways by 2.5%. In state-related areas 200,000 new jobs were created. The fact that "IMF" relies on additional state spending has to do with the monetary policy of the Swiss National Bank (SNB). In addition, "IMF" recognizes risks for the financial stability due to the development in the real estate market. About 85% of domestic assets of banks are concentrated in mortgages. IMF economists are not convinced that banks want to slow down real estate demand with self-regulation. IMF is in favor of state compulsory measures; for example, higher risk capital buffers for banks with exposure to the mortgage business. Trotz vieler freundlicher Sprueche wurde klar, dass nicht alle Ratschlaege des "IWF" gut ankommen in der Schweiz. Die IWF- Oekonomin erklaerte ihre Forderung nach mehr Nachlaessigkeit bei den Staats-Finanzen mit der Abschwaechung der Schweizer Wirtschaft. Wie schon andere Institute reduziert auch der "IWF" die Prognose fuer das Wachstum in der Schweiz in diesem Jahr deutlich von 1,8% auf 1,1%. Die IWF-Oekonomin kritisiert die Schweizer Regierung, sie nutze ihre Moeglichkeiten nicht, um mit Mehr-Ausgaben dagegen zu steuern. Hoehere Ausgaben seien tieferen Steuern vorzuziehen, meint sie. Serge Gaillard, Direktor der Eidgenoessichen Finanzverwaltung (EFV), widerspricht der Kritik des "IWF" entschieden. Zudem sieht der "IWF" Gefahren fuer die Finanz-Stabilitaet wegen der Entwicklung auf dem Immobilien-Markt. Zirka 85% der inlaendischen Vermoegenswerte der Banken seien in Hypotheken konzentriert. Dass die Banken die Immobilien-Nachfrage mit Selbstregulierung daempfen wollen, ueberzeugt die IWF-Oekonomen nicht. He is a member of the "party Alliance 90/The Greens" and one of the most successful politicians of that party. Every Friday, pupils in many German Cities demonstrate against climate change. The protests run under the slogan "Fridays for Future". However, the "Green Kretschmann" does not want the pupils strikes to become a permanent event. "Whoever violates Rules must expect Punishment," says Kretschmann. First German schools have just begun to threaten with sanctions. In the future, climate-strike-related absence at the schools shall be punished; also with monetary fines for the parents. Chancellor Merkel, on the other hand, praised the Climate Youth during a visit to a Berlin High-School this week. The new car factory shall be a sign of departure in the economically flagging country. The new plant is located 40 kilometers outside of Moscow; more than 1,000 skilled workers are expected to build the new Mercedes E-Class cars here. President Putin personally participated in the opening ceremony; the Germans were represented by Federal Minister of Economics Peter Altmaier and Chairman Dieter Zetsche. Russia is an important sales market for Mercedes-Benz; almost 38,000 vehicles were sold in 2018, 3% more than in the previous year. The new factory was built in 1.5 years and the Germans invested 250 Mio. Euros in the plant. Minister Altmaier praised the production site Russia; he called the new Daimler plant a flagship project in the German-Russian relations.
