Bisher wurde traditionell der Intelligenz-Quotient (IQ) als Kriterium fuer die Faehigkeiten einer Person bewertet. Kuerzlich passierte ein Umdenken und der so-genannte "EQ" (emotionale Intelligenz) wird im Berufsumfeld ebenfalls als zunehmend wichtiger anerkannt. Wichtig ist der "EQ" besonders beim Einstellungs-Gespraech und in der Personal- Entwicklung. In Funktionen, die ein hohes Mass an sozialer Kommunikation einschliessen, ist der "EQ" jedoch wesentlich. Der EQ ist dadurch erkennbar, dass eine Person ihre Emotionen wahrnehmen, anerkennen, regulieren sowie beeinflussen kann. Forscher der Universitaeten Bern und Genf haben, basierend auf diesen Kriterien, ein standardisierten Test entwickelt. Der "Geneva Emotional Competence Test (Geco)" misst diese Kompetenzen. Der "Geco" wird in der Forschung, aber auch in Unternehmen eingesetzt. Wie reagiert ein Beweber auf "Wut, Angst, Traurigkeit und Schadenfreude", grosse Schweizer Unternehmen testen dies bereits mit dem "Geco-Test". A strong earthquake in the largest City in Europe, where currently around 15 Mio. people live, would have devastating consequences. The UN (United Nations) estimates in such an event with up to 70,000 dead and 120,000 seriously injured; the reason for the many victims are partly not earthquake-proof buildings. Istanbul has been spared by a strong earthquake for more than 250 years; an earthquake of the magnitude 7 is long overdue. Istanbul is directly adjacent to the so-called North Anatolian Fault; there, two plates wedged into each other. In the underground, more and more energy accumulates; when the plates unblock, there will be a big bang. Researchers at the "German Research Center for Geosciences" (GFZ), Potsdam have developed a new method that could significantly extend the early warning period regarding to Istanbul. There is a probability of 70% that a severe earthquake will occur in the next 30 years. Istanbul is very close to the critical area, so only a two to five second early warning remains. The researchers' new method uses a network of drill holes in the region, where even very weak earth movements are recorded. They observed dozens of micro-earthquakes in 2016, in the hours leading up to the main earthquake, with a magnitude of 4.2. The early warning period could be significantly extended for future earthquakes, if the micro-quakes were a typical feature. Die Wahrscheinlichkeit ist 70%, dass ein schweres Erdbeben in den naechsten 30 Jahren eintritt. Da Istanbul sehr nahe bei der kritischen Gegend liegt, bleibt nur eine Frueh- Warnung von zwei bis fuenf Sekunden. Das neue Verfahren der Forscher nutzt ein Netz von Bohrloechern in der Region, wo auch sehr schwache Erdbewegungen aufgezeichnet werden. Die Forscher beobachteten im Jahr 2016 Dutzende Mikro-Beben, in den Stunden vor dem Haupt-Erdbeben mit einer Staerke von 4,2. Die Frueh-Warnzeit liesse sich fuer kuenftige Erdbeben deutlich verlaengern, falls die Mikro-Beben ein typisches Merkmal waeren. According to the study, farmers have a 37% higher suicide risk. The causes for this are mostly fears of the future, money worries, succession problems or loneliness. Young farmers are worried about the heavy workload, yet they barely make enough money to survive. Older farmers have problems with the digitization or with the increasing bureaucracy. Researchers at the University of Bern examined the topic with data from 90,000 farmers for the first time.
