At Nestle, the shares are broadly spread and a single owner hardly holds more than 1%. At the same time, US-Loeb made requests to the management of Nestle, which were met however with little enthusiasm among the present shareholders of Nestle. "Third Point" requires Nestle to have an operating yield of 18% to 20% by 2020; Nestle reached 15.3% most recently. Besides, Nestle should double the present debt burden and repurchase own shares with that money. US- Loeb also calls for the sale of non-strategic business units, such as the sale of the Nestle's stake at the French L'Oreal worth more than US-Dollar 25 billion. For fund managers, the yield claims of the controversial US-investor Loeb are excessive and the long-term growth of Nestle could suffer under it. They don't consider selling the L'Oreal investment and a share buy-back as useful. An asset manager said: "Nestle has a long-term horizon". He does not believe that Nestle is taking drastic measures just to satisfy an activist! According to the boss of "Swiss JP Morgan", the entry of "Third Point" is no surprise. "Several large US-activists have researched about goals in Europe and especially in Switzerland in recent months." Often, activists just get rid of their investment in six or twelve months. Loeb was successful with regard to the Japanese holding company "Seven & I" in the year 2016. In 2013, "Third Point" failed however with its requests to the management of SONY. Its intentions are (always) to make companies more profitable and to increase its "own profits". Die Rendite-Forderungen des umstrittenen US-Investors Loeb sind fuer Fonds-Manager ueberzogen und darunter koennte das langfristige Wachstum von Nestle leiden. Einen Verkauf der L'Oreal-Beteiligung und einen Aktien-Rueckkauf halten sie nicht fuer sinnvoll. Ein Vermoegens- Verwalter sagte: "Nestle hat einen langfristigen Horizont". Er glaube nicht, dass Nestle drastische Massnahmen ergreife, nur um einen Aktivisten zufrieden zustellen! Laut dem Schweizer-Chef von "JP Morgan" sei der Einstieg von Third Point keine Ueberraschung. "Mehrere grosse US-Aktivisten haetten sich in den letzten Monaten ueber Ziele in Europa und besonders in der Schweiz informiert." Oft seien Aktivisten schon nach sechs bis zwoelf Monaten wieder weg. Japan was once considered a "Paradise for Smokers"; these times are over? In Tokyo and other cities, there are smoke bans on the streets and the number of smoking corners decline. Recently, the smokers' zone near the meeting point "Hachiko" was relocated; that was considered as annoying. In Japan, the number of smokers has been declining for years; according to a recent survey, less than 20% of the Japanese regularly smoke a cigarette, namely 19.8%. A packet of cigarettes costs JPY 440 (about CHF 3.80), of which JPY 277 or 63% flow into the public treasury. Minister of Finance Aso Taro receives more than JPY 2,000 billion (17.5 billion CHF) on income through the tobacco tax per year. In addition, the Japanese state still holds a third on the "Japan Tobacco" company, 32 years after the partial privatization. The Olympic Games 2020 in Tokyo are now a reason for the LDP-Government to implement many political projects. The Ministry of Health wanted a general ban on smoking in almost all enclosed areas, except private dwellings; passive smoking (second-hand smoking) is to be restricted. Because of strong protests, the politics was willing to make exceptions for small bars. About 70% of the LDP- deputies of Premier Abe Shinzo are against the smoke ban and the resistance of the LDP blocked the draft law of the Ministry of Health now. The innkeepers and gastronomy associations were worried about sales losses. There are already voluntary solutions, often with separated areas, where smoking is permitted; that works quite well. In the popular "Izakaya" however, can be smoked often! A law against passive smoking requires "non-binding" to protect customers and workers. The 76-years-old Aso Taro is a delightful smoker; his comments produce often public attention. Aso-san said, "the connection between nicotine and lung cancer should be doubted"! In Japan, about 15,000 people die every year because of smoking. In Japan geht die Zahl der Raucher seit Jahren zurueck; laut einer neuesten Umfrage greifen erstmals weniger als 20% der Japaner regelmaessig zur Zigarette, naemlich 19,8%. Ein Paeckchen Zigaretten kostet JPY 440 (ca. CHF 3.80), davon fliessen JPY 277 oder 63% in die Staatskasse. Finanz-Minister Aso Taro bekommt durch die Tabak-Steuer jaehrlich mehr als 2'000 Mrd. Wegen starken Protesten war man bereit Ausnahmen fuer kleine Bars zu machen. Zirka 70% der LDP-Abgeordneten von Premier Abe Shinzo sind gegen das Rauch-Verbot und der Widerstand der LDP fuehrte jetzt dazu, dass der Gesetzes-Entwurf des Gesundheits-Ministeriums blockiert ist. Die Wirte und Gastronomie-Verbaende befuerchteten Umsatz-Einbussen. Es gibt schon freiwillige Loesungen, oft mit abgetrennten Bereichen, wo geraucht werden darf; diese funktionieren recht gut. For that purpose, Qatar authorized a Swiss law firm to help Qatar claim compensation for damage caused by the economic embargo. The three neighboring Gulf States should compensate the affected parties. The lawsuits are to be brought before courts in these states and other courts with international jurisdiction in Europe. Qatar will soon publish the name of the Swiss law firm. On June 5, the three Gulf States and Egypt imposed economic sanctions upon Qatar and broke off the diplomatic relations. Qatar is accused of supporting extremists. Besides, it is also requested to close the TV channel "Al-Jazeera". The deputy editor-in-chief of the Swiss Radio SRF and diplomatic correspondent Mr. Fredy Gsteiger says that "Al-Jazeera" makes a more independent journalism; in the past, there were only "state-controlled media" in the region. The TV station reports also critically about other Gulf countries and is therefore uncomfortable for Saudi-Arabia. The TV channel "Al-Jazeera" was 20 years old last year and more than 100 Mio. people in the region are watching its news. It has revolutionized the media coverage in the Arab region. The USA has a large military Air-Force base in Qatar. Juni verhaengten die drei Golf-Staaten und Aegypten Wirtschafts-Sanktionen gegen Katar und brachen die diplomatischen Beziehungen ab. Katar wird vorgeworfen, es unterstuetze Extremisten. Zudem wird gefordert, Katar muesse denTV- Sender "Al-Jazeera" schliessen. CNN accused the Hedge Fund manager and consultant of Donald Trump, Mr. Anthony Scaramucci of keeping connections with Russian securities. The Trump-critical TV station CNN based its research on the story only on a "single anonymous source". The CNN-story had been questioned shortly after its publication; the retreat of the story and the excuse is a hard setback for CNN. That is the last of a series of embarrassing incidents at CNN. President Trump wrote on Twitter "Fake News" by CNN. The elderly person was watched by anxious passengers who alerted the crew. China-Southern maintenance staff conducted a full examination of the plane's engine; they found one coin in the interior of the engine and eight additional coins were discovered in front of the engine on the ground. According to the captain, the coins could have caused problems or even made a failure of the engine. The aircraft finally took-off with a delay of five hours.
