According to "Axpo", the more than one kilometer-long dam of the "Muttsee-lake" at 2,500 meters above sea level remained undamaged. Das Erdbeben war in vielen Gebieten der Schweiz spuerbar. Ein aehnlich starkes Erdbeben ereignete sich in der gleichen Gegend am 5. Mai 2003 mit einer Staerke von 4 auf der Richter-Skala. Laut dem Schweizerischen Erdbeben-Dienst (SED) der "ETH Zuerich" sei der noerdliche Alpenrand ein Gebiet mittlerer Erdbeben-Gefaehrdung. Dies liege daran, dass die "Afrikanische Platte" gegen den europaeischen Kontinent-Sockel druecke. Tausende besorgte Einwohner meldeten sich beim "Erdbeben-Dienst" (SED) und legten zeitweise deren Webseite lahm. Zirka 5'000 Personen aus einem Umkreis von 200 Kilometern riefen die Hotline an und meldeten das Erdbeben. Groessere Schaeden wurden bisher keine gemeldet; laut ersten Einschaetzungen handle es sich nur um "Bagatell-Faelle" (Kleinigkeiten) wie zum Beispiel Risse in den Waenden, eingerissene Wasserleitungen oder ein eingestuerztes Kamin. Es wurden bereits mehr als 30 Nachbeben registriert bis am Dienstag- Nachmittag; das staerkste wies eine Magnitude von 2,9 auf der Richter-Skala auf. Schweizer Kern-Kraftwerke haben nachgewiesen, dass sie einem extrem seltenen, starken Erdbeben stand halten koennen; vereinfacht bedeute dies ein Beben der Staerke von ungefaehr 7, sagte ein Sprecher von "ENSI". In der Schweiz werden Erdbeben sei mehr als 100 Jahren erfasst; das staerkste, historisch dokumentierte Erdbeben in der Schweiz hatte eine Staerke von 6,6 und zerstoerte 1356 grosse Teil der Stadt Basel. The ranking of Switzerland as "Number One" refers to the high quality of life, democratic co-determination possibilities as well as the economic openness. The US-magazine "U.S. News & World Report" surveyed 21,000 people worldwide in a total of 65 aspects of their lives, in collaboration with the consulting company "Y & R's BAV" and the "Wharton School" of the US- University of Pennsylvania. The study was conducted in 80 countries; here are the "TOP 10 of the Best Countries": No. 1 Switzerland, No. 2 Canada, No. 3 Great Britain (UK), No. 4 Germany, No. 5 Japan, No. 6 Sweden, No. 7 USA, No. 8 Australia , No. 9 France and No. 10 Norway. Switzerland scored the best results regarding to all categories. The rating in the categories was based on a scale from 0 to 10. Four of the "TOP 15" countries are ruled by women. In the year 2016, Germany was still the "Number 1"; this time the country fell back to the position No. 4. English- speaking media make the German Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel directly responsible for this "setback". Reasons are said to be her open refugee policy, fear of migrants and a series of terrorist attacks in 2016; that has cost Germany scores. Only in the case of food, weather and humor, Switzerland does not belong to the best countries.
