The reason for the safe emergency landing was that the left engine switched off automatically after a fault report. The brand-new Boeing 777-300ER had been delivered to the airline "Swiss" only in May 2016 and on board the aircraft were 217 persons. The emergency landing on the snow runway in Iqaluit went smoothly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jOQs49NYNzE&feature=youtu.be&a The small town of Iqaluit has about 7,000 inhabitants and is located in the Arctic Circle, about 1,200 kilometers away from the City of Quebec. The airport is located on the Antarctic route and has a 2,600- meters-long airstrip; it is thus equipped for emergency landings. It sometimes happens that the airport is approached due to a technical problem or a medical emergency. In Iqaluit, there were no (appropriate) accommodation possibilities, so the crew and the passengers remained in the heated aircraft. On the ground, the daytime-temperatures are minus 25 degrees Celsius, but due to the wind, it feels like minus 35 degrees Celsius. There was also sufficient food for the passengers on board of the airplane, because on the way to Los Angeles yet another (meal) service was provided. After an "involuntary" stay of 14 hours, the passengers were able to continue their flight to New York with a replacement aircraft. The regular flight time between Zurich and Los Angeles is usually 11 hours and 40 minutes. Der Grund fuer die sichere Notlandung war, dass sich das linke Triebwerk nach einer Stoerungs-Meldung automatisch abgeschaltet hatte. Die neue Boeing 777-300ER war er im Mai 2016 an die Fluggesellschaft "Swiss" ausgeliefert worden und an Bord des Flugzeugs waren 217 Personen. Die Kleinstadt Iqaluit hat ungefaehr 7,000 Einwohner und liegt im Polarkreis, zirka 1,200 Kilometer entfernt von der Stadt Quebec. Der Flughafen befindet sich auf der Polar-Route und verfuegt ueber eine 2,600 Meter lange Piste; er ist damit fuer Notlandungen ausgeruestet. Es kommt ab und zu vor, dass der Flughafen wegen eines technischen Problems oder eines medizinischen Notfalls angeflogen wird. In Iqaluit gab es keine Uebernachtungs-Moeglichkeiten, weshalb die Besatzung und die Passagiere im beheizten Flugzeug blieben. Vor Ort betragen die Temperaturen tagsueber minus 25 Grad Celsius, wegen des Windes fuehlt sich dies aber wie minus 35 Grad Celsius. Fuer die Passagiere gab es auch genuegend Verpflegung im Flugzeug, da auf dem Weg nach Los Angeles noch ein weiterer Service vorgesehen war. Nach einem "unfreiwilligen" Aufenthalt von 14 Stunden konnten die Passagiere den Weiterflug mit einer Ersatzmaschine nach New York fortsetzen. Die regulaere Flugzeit zwischen Zuerich und Los Angeles betraegt normalerweise 11 Stunden und 40 Minuten. Ein riesiges Transportflugzeug des Typ "Antonov An-124" brachte ein neues Triebwerk im Wert von 24 Mio. Trotz Negativ-Zinsen (Minus-Zins) in der Schweiz, politische Ereignisse wie Brexit oder die Wahl des neuen US-Praesidenten Donald Trump konnte ein Gewinn erarbeitet werden.
