According to his opinion, the real reason for the increasing prices of raw materials is primary the drop in productivity! Responsible are further the growth of the population and changed eating habits, an inadequate use of existing technologies or an irresponsible way of using water as well as the loss of cultivated land. The production of organic (bio) fuel made out of foods cannot be justified. Besides, the rapidly increasing consumption of <raw materials intensive> meat products in certain countries, has led to further increasing prices of raw materials too. Peter Brabeck held his speech this week at an event of the <Volkswirtschaftlichen Gesellschaft des Kantons Bern (VWG)>. Fuer den Verwaltungsrats-Praesidenten des Schweizer Nahrungsmittel- Konzern Nestle, Peter Brabeck werden die Rohstoff-Preise auch in Zukunft weiter steigen und entsprechend hoch bleiben. Gemaess seiner Ansicht nach liegt der eigentliche Grund fuer steigende Rohstoff- Preise primaer im Rueckgang der Produktivitaet! Dafuer verantwortlich sind im Weiteren das Wachstum der Bevoelkerung und geaenderte Essgewohnheiten, eine unzureichende Nutzung vorhandener Technologien oder ein unverantwortlicher Umgang mit Wasser sowie der Verlust von Kulturland. Die Herstellung von Bio-Treibstoffen aus Nahrungsmittel sei nicht zu verantworten. Im Uebrigen fuehre der schnell zunehmende Konsum von <Rohstoff-intensiven> Fleischprodukten in gewissen Laendern, ebenfalls zu weiterhin hoeheren Rohstoff-Preisen. Eisenbahn: USA wollen mit Japan konkurrieren! The US-Government however has so far only about eight billion US Dollars for that ambitious project; the construction of the first US High Speed Railway Line from Tampa to Orlando shall be contracted out up to 2012. Compared to the US plans, the project of the private Japanese enterprise <Central Japan Railway Company>, will invest the sum of 62 billion US Dollars for the construction of the fastest railway line of the world between Tokyo and Nagoya!! The trains on the new track shall circulate then with a speed of 500 kilometers per hour and the travel time will be shortened from the present 90 minutes to only 40 minutes for 290 kilometers journey. An extension of the line till Osaka is planed for 2027. Die US-Regierung verfuegt fuer das ehrgeizige Projekt jedoch erst ueber acht Milliarden US Dollar; der Bau der ersten US-Hochgeschwindigkeits-Strecke von Tampa nach Orlando soll bis 2012 ausgeschrieben werden. Als Vergleich dazu das Projekt des privaten japanischen Unternehmens <Central Japan Railway Company>, welches fuer den Bau der schnellsten Eisenbahn-Verbindung der Welt zwischen Tokyo und Nagoya die Summe von mehr als 62 Milliarden US Dollar investiert!! Young people, mostly with a University degree, who are called, also the <lost generation> exist also in the so-called industrial countries. In certain countries, the economy cannot provide enough working places so that all young people pushing to the labor market will find an appropriate job. In the west, the youth unemployment will decline, when the generation of the so-called <Baby-boomer> will retire. In the quoted newspaper article the following figures regarding to young unemployed people at the age of between 15 to 24 years were mentioned: Spain 43%, France 25%, USA 18%, Canada 14%, Chile 17%, Australia 13%, Germany 9%, Japan 8% and for Switzerland 4%. In Egypt and Tunisia however the number is at 30%. In Switzerland the <problem> will further decrease, particularly because of the approved <dual vocational education system>. Aufgrund der aktuellen Unruhen in gewissen Regionen der arabischen Welt koennte man denken, dass die Zahl gut ausgebildeter, junger Menschen ohne Arbeit dort besonders hoch sei. Junge Menschen, meistens mit einem Universitaets-Abschluss, welche auch als <die verlorene Generation> bezeichnet werden, gibt es ebenfalls in den so-genannten Industrielaendern. In einzelnen Laendern kann die Wirtschaft oft nicht genug Stellen schaffen, damit alle Jungen, welche auf den Arbeitsmarkt draengen, eine entsprechende Anstellung finden. Im Westen sollte die Jugendarbeitslosigkeit dann zurueckgehen, wenn die Generation der so-genannten <Babyboomer> pensioniert wird. Im zitierten Artikel, werden folgende Prozentzahlen fuer junge Arbeitlose im Alter von 15 bis 24 Jahren genannt: Spanien 43%, Frankreich 25%, USA 18%, Kanada 14%, Chile 17%, Australien 13%, Deutschland 9%, Japan 8% und die Schweiz mit 4%. Out of 1,500 handmade Swiss chocolate bars, they created in nearly two hours the world biggest mosaic; the colorful chocolates (white and red) completed with the Swiss cross and a heart, wrote the message <I love you> on a surface of 7.5 square-meters. That was sufficient for a new world record; the present one was at a level of 900 chocolate bars. The chocolates of the mosaic with a weight of 150 kilograms were then distributed to the passers-by. Mit einer suessen, Schweizer Schokolade-Botschaft <I love you> feierte das Schweizer Unternehmen <My Swiss Chocolate> am Valentins-Tag am Flughafen Zuerich einen Eintrag in das <Guinness Buch der Rekorde>. Aus 1 500 hand-gemachten Schweizer Schokolade-Tafeln erstellten sie in fast zwei Stunden das welt-groesste Mosaik zusammen; die farbige Schokolade (weiss und rot) ergaenzt mit Schweizer Kreuz und Herz schrieb auf einer Flaeche von 7,5 Quadratmeter die Botschaft <I love you>. The present 40-years old ski lift needs to be replaced; as sun and snow can produce lots of energy, flexible solar panels shall produce solar electricity. They can produce three times more electricity than the ski lift needs; the surplus of electricity shall be sold and it will mostly help to finance the cost for the new equipment with a cost of SFr. 1.2 Mio. Der bestehende 40-jaehrige Skilift muss ersetzt werden und da Sonne und Schnee viel Energie produzieren koennen, sollen flexible Solar-Paneele den Solarstrom erzeugen. We asked our <Nakai-san> about a recommended restaurant or Soba-ya. We tried to find the place located just outside the shopping arcade in the City center. The Soba restaurant was a single house carefully built and appropriate in style to the neighborhood. Its name is <Tanami>; the location is popular and the friendly staff is limited. We ordered a large portion of fresh salad, followed by house specialty called <Gobou Tempura> (black salsify), it was very delicious and then the main dish was warm <Tororo Soba>.
