It is expected that this development will be intensified in the coming years. 40 out of 47 prefectures recorded a decrease in the number of inhabitants; an increase of the population was only recorded in Chiba, Kanagawa, Saitama and Tokyo. That is due to the domestic immigration to the metropolis. A birth surplus exists in Okinawa and there the region did profit from <domestic immigration> too; apparently, elderly Japanese people prefer to live there because of the warm climate. In economic marginal areas such as in Akita, Aomori and Kochi, the population decreased the most. A large number of municipalities in the countryside is directly in danger of extinction. The prefecture of Shimane has the most senior citizens as measured by the population; 29% of the inhabitants there are elder than 64 years old. In wirtschaftlichen Randgebieten wie Akita, Aomori und Kochi ging die Bevoelkerung am staerksten zurueck. Eine grosse Anzahl von Gemeinden auf dem Lande ist unmittelbar vom Aussterben bedroht. In der Praefektur Shimane gibt es am meisten Senioren gemessen an der Bevoelkerung; 29% der Einwohner dort sind aelter als 64 Jahre. (Quelle: NZZ vom 04.05.2009) 2) スイスの一部で地震 Earthquake frightened parts of Switzerland Erdbeben erschreckte Teile der Schweiz (Wed. 06.05.2009 Smi) 火曜の朝3時39分にマグニチュード4.5の地震が発生し、地方によってはそれ により目が覚めた人もいる。震源地は、バーゼルの自治体リーエンから10キ ロメートル離れた、ドイツの国境沿いの町、ロェラッハであった。スイスの 多くの地域で、地震が観測され、連邦工科大学チューリヒ校地震サーヴィス に報告が寄せられた。被害はなかった。大勢の人が、騒音を近所での強盗だ と思って警察に電話をした。バーゼルのいわゆる3国国境地帯は特に地震の危 険が高く、1356年に大地震が起きているが、この300年間では、微震しか発生 していない。スイスでは10軒に1軒しか耐震建築になっていない。 （2009年5月6日付けターゲス・アンツァイガー紙より） An earthquake of the magnitude 4,5 on the Richter-Scale woke up the people in parts of Switzerland on Tuesday morning at 03:39 a.m.; the epicentre of the earthquake was located at the German border town of Loerrach, ten kilometres away from the municipality of Riehen (canton of Basle). The earthquake was noticed in many regions of Switzerland; that showed information by private persons to the Swiss Seismological Service in Zurich (ETHZ). There were no damages; many people however called up the police because they heard noise and suspected burglars in the neighbourhood. The so- called border triangle in Basle is considered to be a region particularly endangered for earthquakes; there was a strong earthquake in the year 1356. For around 300 years, there were only minor tremors; in Switzerland however, only every tenth building is considered to be earthquake-proofed. Ein Erdbeben der Staerke 4,5 auf der Richterskala weckte die Menschen in Teilen der Schweiz am Dienstagmorgen um 03:39 Uhr; das Epizentrum des Bebens lag bei der deutschen Grenzstadt Loerrach, zehn Kilometer von der Basler Gemeinde Riehen. Das Beben war in vielen Gebieten der Schweiz zu spueren; dies ergaben Meldungen von Personen an den Erdbebendienst der ETH Zuerich. Es gab keine Schaeden; viele Leute telefonierten jedoch der Polizei, da sie wegen der Geraeusche Einbrecher in der Naehe vermuteten. Under the motto <Speaking Tree>, they let trees speak to passers-by in about 30 Swiss towns. The campaign takes from May to September. The trees stand silently on their site day by day and now, Swiss artists lend their voices to the trees. The tree represented by the voice of an artist tells the passers-by his wisdoms on his path. Die Organisation Pro Natura feiert ihren 100. Geburtstag mit einer besonderen Aktion. Sie laesst unter dem Motto <Sprechender Baum> in zirka 30 Schweizer Staedten Baeume zu den Fussgaengern sprechen. Die Aktion dauert von Mai bis September. Die Baeume stehen taeglich stumm an ihrem Ort und jetzt leihen Schweizer Kuenstler dem Baum ihre Stimme. Der Baum gibt mit der Stimme eines Kuenstlers den Vorbeigehenden seine Weisheiten mit auf den Weg. The hiking trail exists already today and it is marked as regional hiking trail No. 84 on Internet website of <Switzerland Mobility>. The whole path covers a distance of 124 kilometres and it is divided into ten stages. The hiking trail however leads most of the time not directly along the lake-shore, but it goes over hills and peaks. As from next year, <Rapperswil Lake Zurich Tourism> offers the <Lake of Zurich round trip> as package tour; included are overnight stays and luggage transport. Im September wird der Zuerichsee-Rundweg offiziell eroeffnet; dazu gibt es ab Juni einen Wanderfuehrer mit einer Karte aus dem Werd- Verlag. Die ganze Strecke betraegt 124 Kilometer und ist in zehn Etappen unterteilt. Der Wanderweg laeuft jedoch meistens nicht direkt am Seeufer entlang, sondern fuehrt ueber Huegel und Hoehenwege. His <Origami>-(paper) air-plane stayed for 10,60 seconds in the air; the first rank went to a Brazilian with 11,66 seconds flying time. At the World Championship, 253 sportsmen from 83 nations participated; it was only the second world championship taking place at Salzburg. At the category <Aerobatic Flying>, the Japanese Kishiura Takeshige won a gold medal. (Quelle: Tages-Anzeiger vom 04.05.2009) http://www.redbullpaperwings.com/ http://www.redbullpaperwings.com/?cmd=cmdCountry&iCountryId=67 6) ツューリッヒ市内の出入口が大渋滞 Huge traffic jams at gateway to Zurich City Riesige Staus bei Einfahrt in Zuerich City (Mon. 04.05.2009 Smi) 月曜日にツューリッヒの西バイパスが開通した後、渋滞緩和策が市内進入口 に大渋滞を引き起こした。ツューリッヒ・ヴィエディコン地区（ブルナウ） のシールホーフシュトゥラーセで混雑、この道は従来のバイパス、ゼーバー ンと西通りが週末既に一車線に狭められていた。市内に進入ようとした通勤 ラッシュと自家用車は、即刻実施されたこの厳格な変更に驚かされた。警察 は、全ての交通利用者が変更された交通環境に適応するには、6週間から8週 間かかると予想している。通過の旅行者は、今では西バイパスに自由に乗り 入れ出来るので、この渋滞に巻き込まれることはない。代替案として、自家 用車は公共交通（S-バーン）に乗り換えるか、混雑する時間帯を避けて運転 するよう推奨されている。新しいインターネットサイトでは、常時交通情報 が得られるようになるが、現在は実験中。 （出典：2009年5月5日付ターゲス。アンツァイガー紙） After the Western by-pass of Zurich was opened for the traffic on Monday, traffic calming measures on the entrance gateway to Zurich caused heavy traffic jams. The traffic accumulated on the Sihlhochstrasse at the district Zurich-Wiedikon (Brunau), because the roads on the previous West tangent, at the Seebahn- and the West-Strasse had been reduced to one lane already at the weekend. The commuter traffic and the motorists, which have to enter the City were taken by surprise by the immediate implementation of that rigorous measures. The police expects that it will take six to eight weeks until all traffic road users will have got used to the new traffic situation. Transit travellers are not affected by the traffic jams; they have now free drive through the western by-pass. As alternative, the recommendations to motorists is to change to the public transport system (S-railway) or to travel by car outside of the rush hours. A new Internet website informs currently on the traffic situation; it is presently on a testing operation. http://zueritraffic.ch/ Nach dem die West-Umfahrung von Zuerich am Montag fuer den Verkehr geoeffnet wurde, fuehrten Verkehrsberuhigungs-Massnahmen auf der Einfahrt in die Stadt Zuerich zu grossen Staus. Der Verkehr staute sich auf der Sihlhochstrasse im Bezirk Zuerich-Wiedikon (Brunau), da die Strassen auf der bisherigen West-Tangente, Seebahn- und West- Strasse bereits am Wochenende auf eine Spur verkleinert wurden. Der Berufsverkehr und die Automobilisten, welche in die Stadt hinein muessen, wurden von der sofortigen Umsetzung dieser rigorosen Massnahmen ueberrascht. Die Polizei rechnet damit, dass es sechs bis acht Wochen dauern wird, bis sich alle Verkehrsteilnehmer auf die veraenderte Verkehrslage eingestellt haben. Transit-Reisende sind von den Staus nicht betroffen, da sie jetzt freie Fahrt ueber die West-Umfahrung haben; als Alternative wird den Automobilisten das Umsteigen auf den oeffentlichen Verkehr (S-Bahn) oder die Fahrt ausserhalb den Hauptverkehrs-Zeiten empfohlen. The press conference took place at the new sports centre Science City (ETH campus). The internationally recognized Swiss University signed last year 541 co-operation contracts with enterprises in the private sector; that is a new record. During the past 12 years, ETH-researchers established 171 companies (spin-off's), 23 of them only last year! The co-operation with the private sector (economy) will be once more intensified and the ETH will try to focus its research increasingly on the needs of the enterprises. The university is very attractive for students, postgraduates and professors from the whole world; therefore it has no problems regarding to recruiting. 60% of the postgraduates are originated from abroad; on Master level, tuition is taught in English. Here the quota of foreign people is at 30%. 2,167 persons started their studies at the ETH Zurich last autumn; that is an increase of 9%. Waehrend den letzten 12 Jahren gruendeten ETH-Forscher 171 Unternehmen (Spin-off's), allein deren 23 im letzten Jahr! Die Zusammenarbeit mit der Wirtschaft wird nochmals verstaerkt und die ETH versucht ihre Forschung vermehrt auf das Beduerfnis der Unternehmen auszurichten. The Swiss award ceremony took place in Zurich at the <The Dolder Grand> this week. The woman was honoured for her enthusiasm for innovation, her ideas (creativity) and her business results. Her background (career) is impressive; in 20 years, starting as a housewife, she became entrepreneur and owner of her own company Keller Trading SA with headquarters in Bienne. Thanks to her commitment and living will (fighting spirit), she employs today 26 people and the turnover of her company is increasing year by year at an annual rate of 35 to 40%. The company produces gloves, polishing cloth and cases made of high-class micro fiber textile processing them into exclusive <accessories>, which are used and demanded worldwide from the watch- and jewellery industry. The gloves are sewed by hand in Japan and South Korea. Die 45-jaehrige Schweizerin Babette Keller wurde als <Unternehmerin des Jahres 2009> (Business Woman of the Year) mit dem <Veuve Clicquot-Preis> ausgezeichnet. Die Preisverleihung in der Schweiz fand diese Woche in Zuerich im <The Dolder Grand> statt. Die Frau wurde fuer ihre Innovations-Freudigkeit, ihre Ideen und ihre wirtschaftlichen Erfolge geehrt. Ihr Werdegang ist eindruecklich; in 20 Jahren brachte sie es von der Hausfrau zur Unternehmerin und Besitzerin der Keller Trading SA mit Sitz in Biel/Bienne. Dank ihrem Einsatz und Lebenswillen beschaeftigt sie heute 26 Angestellte und der Umsatz ihrer Firma waechst seit zehn Jahren jaehrlich um 35 bis 40%. There is a restaurant which includes accomodation for around 150 people in dormitories. Our guide knows the family, who runs the hut. It is closed in winter as from around November. We were offered a delicious drink called <kuzu-yuu> to keep us warm. We eat Soba for lunch and have an interesting conversation with the hut family. All the material has to be carried up here on foot after the cable car station. Around 2 pm. we start our journey back; next to the hostel is the tsurugi- shrine, where we stop for a short moment of silence. We take partly another way back from the top; it is slightly more steep and rocky. After about 30 minutes we arrive at the <Oh-tsurugi-Jinsha>; we stop and buy a <omamori>. The elderly priest comes up here on foot. A father and his daughter, who are on a pilgrimage pray at the holy place.
